Cherokee County Joins State Severe Weather Preparedness Week

Cherokee County Emergency Management
Department: Homeland Security

Cherokee County Emergency Management is participating in Georgia Severe Weather Preparedness Week, April 13–19. Residents are encouraged to review emergency plans and stock a 72-hour supply kit.

Cherokee County Emergency Management and Homeland Security is joining the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency for Severe Weather Preparedness Week, running April 13–19, 2026.

This year's campaign focuses on tornado preparedness and flash flooding, two of the most frequent severe weather threats in North Georgia. Emergency Management Director Patrice Hollingsworth urges all county residents to:

  • Identify a safe shelter location in their home (interior room, lowest floor, away from windows)
  • Download the AlertCherokee emergency notification app
  • Build or refresh a 72-hour supply kit including water (one gallon per person per day), non-perishable food, medications, and important documents
  • Know the difference between a Watch (conditions are favorable) and a Warning (storm is occurring or imminent)

A free preparedness information session will be held at the Canton Library on April 15 at 6:00 PM. Supplies are limited — register at bit.ly/cherokee-prepares-2026.
