Sixes Road Bridge Replacement Project Enters Final Phase

Cherokee County Communications
Department: Engineering

The Cherokee County Engineering Department reports that the Sixes Road bridge replacement project at Sweetwater Creek is on schedule to complete by June 2026. Lane restrictions remain in effect through May.

The Cherokee County Department of Engineering and the Capital Projects team announced this week that the Sixes Road bridge replacement project has entered its final construction phase. The project, funded through the county's SPLOST program, replaces a 1972-era structure showing significant structural fatigue.

Contractor crews have completed the new southbound span and are now placing the deck on the northbound span. Traffic is currently operating under alternating single-lane control with signal management. Full two-lane operation is expected to resume by June 13, 2026.

Motorcyclists and cyclists should use alternate crossings at Holly Springs Parkway during the restriction period. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time during morning and afternoon peak hours.
